چکیده

We report the first spectroscopic detection of a kink MHD oscillation of a solar coronal structure by the Extreme-Ultraviolet Imaging Spectrometer (EIS) on the Japanese Hinode satellite. The detected oscillation has an amplitude of 1 km s−1 in the Doppler shift of the FeXII 195 Å spectral line (1.3 MK), and a period of 296 s. The unique combination of EIS’s spectroscopic and imaging abilities enables us to measure simultaneously the mass density and length of the oscillating loop. This enables us to measure directly the magnitude of the local magnetic field, the fundamental coronal plasma parameter, as 39 ± 8 G, with unprecedented accuracy. This proof of concept makes EIS an exclusive instrument for the full scale implementation of the MHD coronal seismological technique.

Network Loop Oscillations with EIS/Hinode

We analyze a time sequence of He II 256.32 Å images obtained with EIS/Hinode, sampling a small magnetic loop in magnetic network. Wavelet analysis indicates 11-min periodicity close to the loop apex. We interprete this oscillation as forcing through upward leakage by the fundamental acoustic eigenmode of the underlying field-free cavity. The observed loop length corresponds to the value predict...

Propagating Slow Magnetoacoustic Waves in Coronal Loops Observed by Hinode/eis

We present the first Hinode/EIS observations of 5 min quasi-periodic oscillations detected in a transition-region line (He II) and five coronal lines (Fe X, Fe XII, Fe XIII, Fe XIV, and Fe XV) at the footpoint of a coronal loop. The oscillations exist throughout the whole observation, characterized by a series of wave packets with nearly constant period, typically persisting for 4-6 cycles with...

Hinode/EIS observations of propagating low-frequency slow magnetoacoustic waves in fan-like coronal loops

Aims. We report the first observation of multiple-periodic propagating disturbances along a fan-like coronal structure simultaneously detected in both intensity and Doppler shift in the Fe xii 195 Å line with the EUV Imaging Spectrometer (EIS) onboard Hinode. A new application of coronal seismology is provided based on this observation. Methods. We analyzed the EIS sit-and-stare mode observatio...

Density structure of an active region and associated moss using Hinode/EIS

Context. Studying the problem of active region heating requires precise measurements of physical plasma parameters such as electron density, temperature etc. It is also important to understand the relationship of coronal structures with the magnetic field. The Extreme-ultraviolet Imaging Spectrometer (EIS) aboard Hinode provides a rare opportunity to derive electron density simultaneously at di...

Observation and Modeling of Coronal “Moss” With the EUV Imaging Spectrometer on Hinode

Observations of transition region emission in solar active regions represent a powerful tool for determining the properties of hot coronal loops. In this Letter we present the analysis of new observations of active region moss taken with the Extreme Ultraviolet Imaging Spectrometer (EIS) on the Hinode mission. We find that the intensities predicted by steady, uniformly heated loop models are to...
